I've heard them called hatchets, axes, boxes, gitters and probably many more I've forgotten. Whatever you call 'em there is something magnetic about a guitar!

My playing level - Even with time to clear out the rust, beginner. (I can beat out some chords) I do have a decent sense of timing :)

Strictly by ear although I can read music (figger that one out)

Preferred instrument - Flat top, or electric bass (4 string). I had a Fender Precision once upon a time. I traded it for a no name Fender copy. Why? Cause the neck on the Precision was as thick as a baseball bat. The no name was faster, lighter and easier to play!

Welcome, Tina! I'm glad to know there's a bassist in our midst. I may call on you when I start focusing on bass next week in the Zones.

What manufacturer did your Fender copy? I'm a huge fan of lesser known guitar makers, but I do own a couple of Fenders.

All the best,

I don't have a clue, Carlie. There wasn't a name on it anywhere and I literally traded it one for another to another bass player. (He couldn't believe I wanted to trade even up!) It was spitting image of the Precision, even in color. The only difference was the thickness of the wood for the neck and the body.

My favorite flat top was a Madeira made by Gibson. It had the sweetest tone. My ex's favorite was an Epiphone.

Do you have a favorite guitar and/or maker?

Hey Tina,

Fender's my absolute favorite. I like Nikko as a close second because they aren't afraid to experiment, but their quality is less than the big guys (like Fender). I've amassed an interesting collection of them - basically by scouring the Internet. (I can't get them locally unfortunately.)

All the best,
