Pop powerhouse Britney Jean Spears is one of the most well known female performers in the past decade. She was born in Kentwood, Louisiana on December 2, 1981 to parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears. Britney's first television appearance was as a contestant on the popular television show, Star Search. At the age of 11, she tried out for the Mickey Mouse Club and was chosen to be a member of their group along with other future musicians and actors (Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, etc.). Due to the minor fame she accumulated from her television appearances she signed a record deal with Jive.

Her first album (...Baby One More Time) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Her continued success with sophomore album Oops, I Did It Again released in 2000 deemed Britney the Princess of Pop. Though Britney has undergone trials and tribulations as most have, Forbes still ranked her the 13th most powerful celebrity with racking in just over $35 million in 2009.
