Shania Twain (Born Eileen Edwards) was raised in Timmins, Ontario, by her mother Sharon and adoptive father Jerry Twain. Unlike today, Twain came from very humble beginnings she herself has described as bordering on being impovershed at times. Although times were tough, they always found a way to get by.
Shania's talent was first noticed by her mother who encouraged her to pursue her dream of singing. At a very young age Shania could be found playing local clubs at night belting out covers of Dolly Parton songs. Her career appeared to be ready to hit stride when she was struck by the tragedy of her parents perishing in an auto accident at the age of twenty. Shania put her career on hold to raise her younger siblings, but never gave up on her dream.
